Meaning and boundaries

A deposit sits on or is attached to the surface. The word does not prove that the underlying glass is etched, corroded, or otherwise altered.

Why it matters in glass restoration

Separating deposit from substrate damage prevents unnecessary material removal and supports the least aggressive effective treatment.
